Manix is an app that reads text on your screen and shows it in your language. It is made by Polarys Lab ("we", "us"). You can reach us at manix@polaryslab.com.
What Manix looks at
When you press Start and allow screen sharing, Manix looks at the part of the screen you chose, or the whole screen in Premium. It reads the text with tools that run on your phone and translates it on your phone. The picture of your screen is used in memory for a moment and is never saved to storage and never sent to us or to anyone else.
What stays on your phone
- Your latest lines. The text Manix recently read and translated, so you can look back. You can clear it any time in Settings, then Your stuff.
- Saved words, profiles and settings. What you choose to save and how you set the app up.
- Your backup file. If you use "Back up to a file", the file goes where you save it. We never receive it.
What we collect
Nothing about you. There is no sign-up, no login, no advertising identifier, no analytics and no crash-report tool inside the app.
When the app uses the internet
- Language and translation downloads. The translation model arrives through Google Play. Language packs for the standard translator come from Google (ML Kit). If Google Play cannot deliver the model, Manix can fetch it from a public file host (Hugging Face). Like any download, the host can see your IP address and the file you asked for. They do not receive anything from your screen.
- Payments. If you subscribe or buy Lifetime, Google Play takes the payment. We do not see your card or payment details. We learn only that your purchase is active. To protect against fraud, we may check a purchase with Google through a secure server. That check uses a purchase token, not your name or your screen.
Backups by Android
If Google backup is on for your phone, Android may back up your saved words, profiles and settings to your own Google account, and restore them on a new phone. Google handles that backup under its own policy. Your recent lines are not included.
Permissions, and why
- Show over other apps. So the translated text can float over your app or game.
- Screen sharing. Android asks you every time you press Start. It lets Manix read the screen while it is on.
- Notifications. A notice that Manix is running, with a Stop button. Android requires it for this kind of service.
- Internet. Only for the downloads above and for purchases.
Manix respects apps that block screen capture. It does not try to get around that block.
Please keep Manix off private screens
For safety, please do not use Manix on banking, payment, ID or password screens. Manix does not save or share what it reads, but those screens are best left alone.
Children
Manix is not made for children under 13, or under the age set by your country. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and the app collects none from anyone.
Your choices
- Clear your recent lines in Settings, or clear the app's data in Android settings to remove everything Manix stores.
- Uninstall Manix to remove it all from your phone.
- Turn off screen sharing or stop Manix at any time from the bar or the notification.
Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to delete or send back. If you think we hold something, write to us and we will check.
Security
Reading and translating happen on your phone. Files we download are checked against a fixed size and fingerprint before they are used, and downloads use a secure connection.
Changes
If we change how Manix handles data, we will update this page and the app before the change goes live. The date at the top shows the latest version.
